“It’s the phone call no one wants to get from his daughter 7 weeks before her wedding. ‘Dad, my venue shut down.'”
Melissa’s Dad gave the kindest welcome speech at her reception, celebrating Matt and Melissa’s marriage, everyone cheered and applauded this incredible couple after hearing that their celebration was running on Plan C. Matt and Melissa’s venue closed down without warning just a few weeks before their date. The festivities went full-steam ahead (Melissa used the hashtag #venueless for her bridal shower, bless her heart, it’s funny now that it’s over…) while the search for a new venue went on in the background. I was starting to get a little nervous for her, and I researched a few alternative venues of my own, and then Melissa e-mailed me information for the Chateau Bu-De Winery at Bohemia Manor Farm. It looked perfect with acres and acres of vines covering the hillside, what felt like 360 views of the Bohemia River (okay, it’s not actually on an island so I know that’s not possible, but use your imagination), and an absolutely stunning 1920s manor house.
A soaking rain pushed the wedding inside the tasting room the day before – weddings! you have to be flexible! – and Matt and Melissa weren’t fazed in the slightest. They were so happy to be together with their families, to celebrate Day One of their marriage no matter the weather, the location, or the rain plan. They laughed and danced and no one ever mentioned their cold toes or cloudy skies.
