How did you get started with rentals, invitation design & wedding planning?

Our business definitely has evolved since we first started! In the beginning, we primarily made custom jewelry, accessories, handmade decor items and fabric bouquets for brides. One bride who we were working with had come into the studio and asked if we rented out any of our furniture for weddings. The lightbulb went off and we quickly started renting out our pieces and adding to our inventory. Invitations were a natural fit for us. Jill has a background in graphic design and we loved the idea of being an integral part of the design process by incorporating paper and invitations. Planning also seemed like an easy transition. We have carefully and thoughtfully built the 3 areas of our company to make it not only a huge convenience for our clients, but something we pride ourselves in being experts in. It has been a very organic process and we have loved seeing our business evolve to what it is today!

What has been the highlight of your career in weddings?

Hands down, the best part of our business is the incredible people we have met. Seriously!! We absolutely love getting to know our clients and their families. With some couples, we are working with them for over a year, so the bonds that we create are so special.

How would you describe your work?

I would say that we are both really drawn to more of a boho, earthy style. Even though we are personally drawn to that style, we love the challenge of taking someone’s vision and bringing it to life. We have a ton of different types of brides that come into the studio and we pride ourselves on being able to accommodate all of their styles and needs.

What is your best piece of advice for brides planning their wedding?

Be realistic!! So many brides come to us and have had Pinterest overload! It can be overwhelming for brides today with all of the visual resources that are out there; they feel like they have to keep up with what they are seeing on Instagram, Pinterest and the countless wedding blogs. A lot of times, they come with pictures from styled shoots that would never work at a real wedding! But most importantly, keep things fun and semi stress free. We know it’s hard and there are so many moving pieces, but trust that your wedding planner knows what they are doing and everything you envision will come together. Also, start with a realistic budget and know what areas of your wedding design are most important to you. Whether it’s flowers, specialty furniture pieces, or the bar, set your priorities and add things on as needed.

What trends do you hope to see come and go?

I really love the modern trends that are around right now~ geometric shapes, lots of greenery, mixed metals. I hope that sticks around for a bit! And we love natural elements and have designed many stained wood boards and signage in place of the more crafty chalkboards. A trend that we haven’t incorporated in a long time is burlap!! It smells and it’s scratchy and so hard to keep a burlap table runner to not curl up at the ends! We much prefer a runner of lush greens or a functional tray to anchor the centerpiece.

When you’re not working in weddings, what are you up to?

Ally~ I function best when I am busy!.And boy do my two kids, Arden who is 14 and Porter who is just about 13, keep me on my toes!! One of my life passions is theatre. In order to stay involved with the arts, I have joined the Board of Directors at The Children’s Theatre of Annapolis. Currently I am their Executive Producer. I am also an active volunteer for AFS (American Field Service) which is an international exchange student program. Last year my family hosted a student from Uruguay for a year and this year I am a liaison for a young girl from Chile. Promoting international peace starts with our children and I love being a part of this organization.

Jill~ Life is never dull when you have a 14 year old and a 10 year old! I don’t like to sit still unless it’s at night when everyone is in bed so i can catch up on a few(well, more than a few) Netfilx/Hulu series. I love to be involved in the arts and every so often go back to my singing roots. My husband and I traveled with our band mates for about 10 years before we had children, but the need to belt out some rock/pop tunes is always there, and perhaps some good musical hits. I love to doing home projects and repainting walls in my house for a little pick me up and have found a love for practicing yoga again. Namaste!
